{"id":297,"date":"2017-09-28T11:40:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T18:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pastorfred.blogsite.org\/?p=297"},"modified":"2017-09-28T11:46:46","modified_gmt":"2017-09-28T18:46:46","slug":"roof-of-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnews.homedns.org\/?p=297","title":{"rendered":"An Old Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><H1 align=center>Roof of the World<\/H1><\/p>\n<pre style=\"font-family:serif;font-size:larger;\">\nWhat if the roof of the world were torn off?\n\nThen the sky, the real sky, would show through.\n\nAs our sky turns to black by a deepening from blue\nSo this sky would be a deeper black\nWith a stronger memory of blue.\n\nAnd the stars!\n\nA city dweller who leaves the urban lights\nSees new heavens: new stars flowing\nIn silver ribbons across the sky.\n\nBut this sky would hold golden glories,\nGlobes of silver and jade and sapphire,\nGlowing honey in brilliant pale droplets.\n\nAnd the older stars, grown fat and ruddy with years\nWould send from their stately obesity\nNot so much beams\nAs ruby rivers of illumination\nIn which young suns\nWould bob like lanterns cast adrift\nIn a Chinese festival.\n\nGalaxies would wheel in joyful dance,\nTheir intricate patterns now livened to visibility.\n\nComets would burst like fireworks,\nMeteors blink like fireflies.\n\nBut if we could hardly stand the glories\nThat true night would bring,\nWould not the day's coming\nBe so intolerable\nThat any who spoke of it\nCould tell only of disaster?\n\nThe brightness of that sun could not be seen\nBecause no eye could endure it;\nCould not be reported\nBecause no brain could survive it.\n\nNot light does it give but life,\nYet life so vigorous as to be death\nTo anything that can die.\n\nAnd so, with the coming of true day,\nAll that is mortal would pass away.\n\nAnd yet, could we see but the spark of its rising,\nWe would, as we perished, call ourselves blessed.\n\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Roof of the World What if the roof of the world were torn off?
