Two Poems

Perhaps It Was a Man, Perhaps a Worm

by Brian Hu

Perhaps it was a man, perhaps a worm
too crooked to know
without knowing the light
his feet limped across the floor
his body kept on tripping

Falling, falling
Seemingly always falling
Failing, failing
Failing in this world

Yet he had not known
What was there help
Yet he had not known
What help there was

Microgravity
nowhere to plant ones feet
floating throughout space
space, space-time
just another day

but not another day; a fateful decision
a guardrail emerged from the water
a guardian emerged splashed into his life
a light unto his path
a path for his flight

a light he had not known he wanted
no, not wanted
a light he had not known he needed

in the darkest times
his mouth was shut
everything was spiraling
out of control
like a black hole
when he couldn't speak
"it was too complicated" he would say

there was still a pillar to turn to
a pillar to look to
one that was more stable
a pillar that was more knowledgable
one that was more right
a pillar that was more credible
it wrote the man's factory manual, after all

The First Meeting

by Yujia Wang

The first meeting,
encountered in an uncommon place.
Aroma of sandwiches and unfamiliar chatters engulfed my senses.

The first beginning,
the orange-red hued sunset,
struck a string in my heart unrelated to the scenery.

An unexpected crack in a dish,
the first reassurance.

A getaway without the ones I held closest,
one that I approached with doubts;
but He took what was fostering and solidified the spark,
the first chapter.

The Lord's love comes slow and powerful like the wave,
it comes overwhelmingly when it is not expected,
yet the outcome is breathtakingly beautiful.
