Psalm 37

Another “aesthetic” translation.

Don’t Get Excited

Don't get excited over those doing evil;
Don't get hot about the unjust.

For like grass they will quickly wither
  And like greenery quickly fade.

Trust in Yahweh and do good!
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness!

And delight in Yahweh
And he will give you what your heart asks.

Aim your way at Yahweh
Trust him and he will act.

In bright light he will show that you are right,
And display your integrity at high noon.

Be silent before Yahweh
  And wait patiently for him.

Do not excite yourself over someone who prospers in his way ---
A man executing his wicked plans.

Stop getting angry!
  Let go of your wrath!
Do not keep getting worked up!
It leads only to evil.

For those doing evil will be exterminated;
Those who wait for Yahweh will take their place in the land.

In a little while --- no more wicked person!
You carefully search his turf --- gone!

But the downcast will own the land
  And revel in abundant peace!

The wicked person schemes against righteous people
And gnashes his teeth at them.

But the Lord mocks him
Because he sees that his day will come.

Wicked people draw swords and bend bows
To bring down the humble and lowly,
And to slaughter those who walk straight paths.

Their swords will pierce their own hearts
And their bows will be snapped.

Even the poverty of a righteous person
Is better than the collected wealth of many wicked.

For the strong arm of the wicked will be broken
But Yahweh makes righteous people stand.

Yahweh knows the days of those with integrity
  And their inheritance lasts forever.

They are not caught short in evil times
Even during a famine they are full.
